HOMEGirlbyCRM Q&A: BRANDY

BRANDY Answers the HOMEGirlbyCRM Questionnaire

The “Vocal Bible” talks all things Home.

Brandy was a natural choice for the first HomeGirlbyCRM Q&A.

In the early 90s, Brandy Rayana Norwood was a teenage singer fresh off the TV show “Thea.” I was charged with doing her publicity at Atlantic Records where I ran the urban publicity department. We spent the next decade together navigating the music, film and TV worlds where both of our career dreams would come true.

We did countless videos, photo shoots, TV, radio and film appearances including award shows, red carpets and world tours. Over that time, Brandy starred on the “Moesha” show, and in the movies “Cinderella” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

Brandy has sold over 40 million records worldwide and even released a series of dolls in her likeness in 1999 that became one of Mattel’s top sellers. She is one of the one of the hyphenate talents that proved Black artists could have multifaceted careers, which you see playing out to this day.

Brandy, once our lil’ sister, is now our HomeGirl, a mother and a seasoned professional who’s more than earned her crown as the ‘Vocal Bible,’ a moniker bestowed on her by her loyal legion of fans. She was, and is, a stellar representative of #Blackgirlmagic.

What’s New & Good? Hi Chrissy, there are so many good things to be thankful for. I released my album B7 last year, and it was so amazing to see the favorable reactions of the fans, industry executives, and my peers. With this album, I had the chance to write, produce and control the creative. My label Bran Nu Entertainment, distributed through eOne was a different experience. Moesha on Netflix the day before the release of B7, Moesha on Hulu on February 9, and on February 12, Cinderella goes to Disney+. I’m also John Legend’s battle advisor on the upcoming season of the Voice. I'm just so grateful that God has blessed me to be healthy, appreciated by fans after being gone for 8 years.

When you think of Home what do you think of? I think of my daughter, Sy'rai, her friends around in the studio, and those moments we have as mom-daughter, watching movies and having family around. Sometimes so many things are going on until you take the family for granted. I've learned that no one will come through in the way that family would when you're down. I needed a lot of support and love recording B7, and my daughter and family were there. Thank you, Jesus!

What Song or music reminds you of Home? The song Home and Amazing Grace.

What 3 things must be in & around your Home? Candles, Journals, and Cranberry Juice

What’s the favorite room in your Home & why? My bedroom is my solace. I created the ambiance, and it's my place to be me. It's respected by the family and pretty much the only place I hang out in the house.

What’s your favorite Home-cooked meal? I love my mom's dressing, her sweet potato pies, and fried chicken. I also like Gumbo and red beans and rice.

What’s your idea of Happiness? Feeling connected to God and purpose and happy when I feel like I'm walking in my purpose.

What’s your greatest fear? Is fear itself.

What’s been some good old fashioned Home training you live by? Treat others as you would like to be treated. Be humble and grateful for your blessings. Stay true to myself. Walk by faith and not by sight. Stay low and keep moving. And, all things are possible.

What 3 people - living or deceased - would you have in your Home for an intimate evening of music, food & film? Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Prince, LaShawn Daniels.

Stay connected with Brandy and her work.
